Weekending: Friends, Hockey, and Project Life

Going into the weekend, I knew it would be a busy one, though full of fun. Saturday was by far our busiest day. We were up early to go for a run which woke us up even as we found ourselves slightly struggling to get moving in the beginning. It was definitely a crisp morning, and the autumn colors in our neighborhood are at their peak. We had a lot of fun admiring the leaves still on the trees and crunching through the piles that fell on the sidewalk last week.

Saturday was busy because we packed a lot into it: a trip to the new coffee shop in town for a latte, open hours at the cat shelter, and a trip to the mall with an old friend. We recently reconnected after losing touch for a few years and it was like old times when we met to go shopping Saturday afternoon. Our four hours at the mall flew by as we looked at new styles and fashions for fall and the colder days in winter. We're already talking for plans in the future and I'm excited to spend more time with her as things calm down.

The weekend wrapped up with a visit from my dad and brother, who arrived late Saturday night. My brother plays goalie for a travel hockey team and his team had two games in our area Sunday morning and afternoon. This made for an early start to Sunday, but it was well worth it. I got to spend time visiting with my father and watch my brother's hockey team play two very exciting games - both resulting in wins! I can still remember when he was playing pee wee hockey, and it's amazing to me how much all of the kids have grown in the past few years. Eventually, though, they had to be on their way home, and I made my way back to our house for some RnR in front of a few football games and scrapbooking.

I'm still working hard to put together a fun scrapbook of our engagement, wedding, and first year of marriage using the Project Life System. I recently used a Snapfish coupon code to get 300 prints made from the past year - prints which were heavily wedding-and-honeymoon themed. When those arrived, I got to work putting together a few spreads in my big book, and after about an hour's work had three two-page-spreads of photos, notecards, and ephemera assembled.

As I have worked more in my album and figured out what the style of each page is for me, I've begun to work toward some more experimenting and ideas for how to get out of my box and comfort zone. Many of the pages I like have slots for four 4x6 prints and four 3x4 prints. I've been using the Project Life notecards to fill the 3x4 slots (I have both the Kraft edition and wedding edition mini kit), but after putting together some of my pages on Sunday, I think I am going to see about splitting some pictures up to add more visual interest to the 3x4 slots. This may involve me finally buying a corner rounder, but we will see where I go! I am only a few weeks into Project Life-ing it and I love it so much - I can see doing this for a very long time.

Though it was a hectic weekend, it was exceptionally fun. Allen's birthday is coming up later in the week so we have a short but fun week on the agenda including cake, dinner out one night, and a fun gathering with friends I've made through volunteering. I can't wait to see what the rest of the week will bring.

What did you get into this weekend?
