My word for 2018 came quickly, easily: Brave.
Brave, not slow. Brave, not perfect. Bravely take action. Brave - take the jump.
Brave because I tend to overthink everything and look too many times before I leap. Sometimes never leaping. As someone who aspires to be a writer, without bravery, I'll never put anything out there for publication beyond this little blog of mine.
Brave because I want to act and do. Because sometimes leaping right after you look can be a good thing. We're going into February this week and I've already taken more than one jump because of bravery. Two are writing-related, and one is more faith-centric. This year I hope to host and possibly lead a Bible study with some of my closest local friends. I also want to write more, get deeper into my writing, and cultivate deeper friendships with those around me.
When I was brainstorming for my word this year, every sentence I wrote had to do with action: submit a piece a month for publication on a third-party website. Write daily. Publish multiple blog posts in a month. Connect with friends. Do more. Take action. Be braver.
Brave stood out as the best choice because act relied on the action of being brave. Pressing publish takes bravery - have you read a comments section on any website recently?
I want to get a lot out of 2018, so in 2018 I'll be making more leaps, pressing publish and submitting more. I'll be trying new things and stretching my wings. In 2018, I'll be brave.
Let's see how far this takes me.
